OH YEAH! I also play Middle Eastern percussion as well as West African and music from the diaspora. The Egyptians that I know get pissed beyond belief when you do not include them as African! I don't know what kind of Egyptians you all know, but I wouldn't advise telling one that they aren't African!!!! The whole of sub-Saharan Africa speaks Arabic. The 7th holiest city in Islam resides in Senegal! Their looks and language may change but one thing stays the same AFRICA!!!! Ya tu lo ves!

"Who knows", it may be true that most Egyptians do not consider themselves to be African simply because it has such a strong Arabic influence (especially since it is so close to Arabic countries), but the matter of fact is that Egypt is in Africa. Sorry, ya deny it as much as ya want, but facts are facts.

"Blacks" were "introduced" to the United States way before 1620...more like 1528..and by the way, those were Black slaves. Now,the "Blacks" who arrived in America with Columbus with him when he discovered America, were with him and treated as equals. Oh, and btw, Egypt is DEFINITELY part of Ancient Africa...I'm not even gonna get into that extensively..I can, but I wont...

Furthermore, the Egyptians of today are not the same people that lived there in ancient times. And if you think that there were no black people in ancient Egypt then Liz Taylor playing Cleopatra really did a number on you! But that's not the point. Don't try to ruffle people's feathers using history when you don't know what the hell you are talking about! Oh and the video AWESOME! I have a few recordings of Tocororo, never seen this. Any know the name of the documentary.

First off this is to thebesternestover who ever he is. First there was the Ghana Empire lasting between 750AD to 1076AD. This empire stretch across modern day Guinea, Mali, Sene-Gambia, Niger and Burkina Faso. The next was the Mali Empire led by Mandinka king Sundiata Keita. This period lasted from 1230AD to 1600AD roughly. This is known as the "golden age" Of west African culture. Next came the Songhai Empire. This period met its demise through tribal conflicts and slavery.
